Team Talk - Interview with Sarah Lugg

We talked to our team member Sarah Lugg about life, music and Worthers..

What do you love about your role in Worthers?

I love that my role is constantly evolving and that I am always learning something new. I have to keep up to date with the latest developments in SEO and do research to find helpful answers to questions our clients put forward for a blog post. I have been able to add to my previous work experience and gain new skills. I have also found I like writing new material so much so that I now regularly make time to write, just for me!

Why did you become a Content Manager?

I kind of fell into it, after university, I saw an advert for working at an advertising agency which I thought looked like a cool job. I went for it and I was lucky enough to get it. Where I worked everything was fast and frantic, quick briefs and fast turnarounds. We worked hard and played hard. I really enjoyed it, but the job was full on and I often worked late. After a few years, I moved from advertising to customer publishing, where the pace was a bit slower, I got to work with designers and copywriters to pitch ideas to big businesses. In this role, I learnt that good content is the basis of a job well done!

Why Worthers?

Initially, the contact came through my husband, he had a relationship with Worthers and freelanced for them. I had met the team through him and when a part-time role came up, I was interviewed. I hadn't worked for a few years so I was looking for a company who would treat me well and help me to regain my confidence as well as learn new things.

I also wanted the opportunity to bring my faith into work, I loved the idea of working for a business that was kingdom focused. That actually carves out time to pray. Fast forward a couple of years and I still love this about work. I love the people I work with, I love that we stop and pray for clients and each other. I love that Worthers genuinely care for its employees and for the business’, churches’ and charities’ we work with. I also love that I have made lifelong friends here. They genuinely are a very lovely bunch of people!

What's your biggest challenge in work?

I think the biggest challenge is managing my time. I am in the office two days a week during term time and my job involves lots of different bits and pieces. I do SEO, social media, newsletters, blog posts and talk to clients. I am always checking my to do list and making sure I am on track. When I started I was not good at interrupting people when they were busy, so I could get some help, now I am getting better at that. I also was really nervous when I first started calling people, I think that motherhood has changed me and I'm now evolving into something new!

Marmite. Love it or hate it.

Hate it, except when I was pregnant with my first child, I'm not sure I loved it then, but for some reason, it was really appealing!

What job would your alter ego do?

She would be a counsellor by day and a singer and dancer by night in a big band!

If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?

To be able to give people emotional and physical healing, I would love to shoot rainbows and sunshine into tough situations and to never run out of energy.

Why? Because I am naturally a bit of an energy bomb and I am hugely emphatic, so when someone I care about is in pain, so am I. And, when its people's birthdays, well that's far too exciting, I get more excited about other people's birthdays, then I do my own! Before I had my three wonderful kids which have levelled me, people always asked me to can my energy and hand it out!
