Thunderbird is a great email application that you can send and receive emails on. This application works for both Apple and PC computers and is free to download and use.

  1. In a browser load https://www.thunderbird.net/en-GB/ and download the software to your computer and follow the prompts to install.

2. Once installed, start the application and under accounts click on email.

3. Now enter in your name, full email address and your password then press manual config as you need to add in the correct server settings.

4. Enter in the incoming and outgoing servers and the right port numbers 993 for IMAP and 465 for outgoing. Now enter in your username (email address) for incoming and outgoing, then press done.

5. Now you will see all your emails flow into your mailbox, this may take some time for them all to come in.

 

6. If you are having an issue sending or receiving emails it's good to check that your email settings are correct. You can do this by double clicking on your mailbox on the top left hand side of your screen. Now under accounts click on view settings then click on server settings, now you will see your incoming servers settings, so you can check you have the right server, name, username and port number.

7. To check the outgoing settings scroll to the bottom of the menu bar and click on the outgoing server. Select the right server and click on edit, check you have the right server name and port number in this box.

8. To create a local folder scroll to the bottom and right click on local folders and select a new folder, you have the option to assign this to different email accounts you have set up in your thunderbird.
